TEAM RUSH

Admittedly, the Team was initially hesitant towards using NP lubricants as we have a high-performance engine and the other powerboats in the class were utilizing the exotic foreign lubricants. Further, NP had a reputation in the past (whether true or not) of being a low-quality lubricant. However, the Rush Team can proudly say that the initial trepidation has turned to exuberance towards the Ultra brand. Ultra has come leaps and bounds in its development which is evident in all the test reports we regularly conduct.

Reminiscing on the 2015 Great Race, we would have started the First Leg of the race to Canning’s Point and both engines were performing in immaculate condition with an oil pressure of 60 psi which is normal for us. We proceeded up the coast to Grand Riviere, but lost the starboard engine to electrical problems. We still had an oil pressure of approximately 20 psi on the port engine so decided to keep going as we were fourth overall and first in class at the time. Ultimately, as we approached the finish line at Scarborough, we lost the starboard engine again and had a port engine pressure of 8 psi so made a choice to abandon the race.

When we returned to Trinidad, we found the source of the leak, fixed it and refilled the engine with our specially formulated Ultra oil. After start-up, the engine oil pressure immediately went back up to 60 psi. We then conducted a number of engine and oil tests and can categorically state that Ultra oil proved itself. Despite the additional strain put on the engine as a result of the oil leak, the engine not only survived but continues to thrive, thanks in no small part to Ultra lubricants. In fact, we were able to run a few more regattas without any major work on that engine. The support of Ultra Lubricants and NP’s lab has made the Rush Team both a convert and a proud advocate of the Ultra Brand – a World Class Lubricant blended for Tropical Conditions.
